Obedience
Our vacation was great. Family. Friends. Tacos.
One highlight that we will never forget is our two older daughters best friends from Kindergarten that arrived at the beach house with their mom. They came because they had been feeling an overwhelming desire to respond to the voice of God in their lives. They came and asked if we would baptize them.
No building. No music. No special call or clipboard. They all just heard and responded.
I wonder why we sometimes make obedience so complicated and difficult. Why do we take so long to respond? Fear? Insecurity? Inconvenience?
In the New Testament, when the disciples were out building His Church they had no big buildings, programs, special classes...all they needed was some water. A small pond and an obedient Christ follower. They responded.
Don’t get me wrong. I am all for training and developing Christ followers with teaching, but when you boil it down - what God is asking for is obedience.
What is God asking of you? Give. End a relationship. Take a new spiritual step. Confess.
Whatever it might be He wants you to respond. Trust and Obey. There is no other way.
We baptized the girls and their mom that night at the beach and we were blessed to witnesses such a beautiful act of obedience.
1 John 5:3
This is love for God: to obey his commands.
Blessings,
Troy |

Wednesday Night Connect
God has a plan for families - a plan where parents are entrusted with the spiritual growth of their children. Deut. 6:6 -7 says: "…these commandments that I give you today…you shall diligently teach to your children, and talk of them when you sit down in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise…"
Wednesday Night Connect was developed to give families a place to learn, worship, and grow together. The first Wednesday of the month is reserved for worship, with a separate service geared toward middle school students, and an off-site serve night for high school students. Other Wednesdays offer classes/programs for children, students and adults. Whether you are married, or single, have children or not, our goal is that you grow in relationship with God and each other.
Click here for class info/registration. Groups are forming NOW! Register early!

Student Ministries Missions Trip
As many of you may know, in late July a group of High School students went on a mission trip to Winter Park, Colorado. This is just a bit of what we learned.
In 2 Corinthians 12:15 the apostle Paul writes, “I will very gladly spend for you everything I have and expend myself as well.” Recently a group from Community’s High School Ministry learned exactly what it means to live this way. I co-lead the team of 12 to Timberline Lodge, a bible school and retreat center. We spent the week serving the Lord and learning to love Him more. We moved, cut, and stacked wood, and in the process got to bless brothers and sisters in Christ and witness and pray for non-believers. We also traveled to Denver and learned about the 1,500 homeless youth in the city. We saw their squats, where they use drugs, where they exist in the deepest pain. We went under the city into a darkness unmatched and prayed and begged God to save. We got to find God in His creation, and learn a bit more of how deep and long and wide He really is. We hiked His mountains and saw His sun rise over the summit. We saw Him move in our midst, changing hearts and minds, teaching us how to spend ourselves like Paul. We learned about faith and life and love directly from the author of it all. As in any encounter with Christ, we will not be the same again. Our prayer was and is that the growth in us would be used to change Green Bay, to see Christ’s kingdom grow in our midst, as we did in Colorado. We are so thankful for a community to send us, and are glad to share with you our stories and our life change. And an especially big thanks to all who supported us financially and with prayers, thank you for living like Paul as well!

Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Between August 2 and August 8, 16 young men on a missions trip from the Chicago area bunked on the sofas at Green Bay Community Church. While here, they worked in our community helping the disabled with home improvement projects. From yard work, to splitting wood, to shingling a garage, to scraping and painting a two-story farmhouse, these young men were the hands and feet of Christ to the people whose lives they touched.
A huge thank you to those of you in our congregation that made meals, had the guys over for dinner, supplied lunches and snacks, and provided tools and work for them. They came to Green Bay to be a blessing to others, which they did, but in turn were equally blessed.
If you’d like to see photos of the guys in action on their last day, click here. |

Group Life
One of the greatest longings of the human heart is to belong: to know others and be known by others; it's the way God intended us to live.
Group Life provides opportunities for
individuals to experience a sense of belonging, to grow together on our spiritual journeys, and to serve others.
While each type of group (Interest, Care, Discovery, Life, and Serving) provides a different opportunity to connect, all are designed around our vision of attracting people to Christ and building community.
