Ekletos
I was very excited when I was given the charge of writing an excerpt for eCommunity. I thought I would take the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone
1. Give you all a little insight into my story, and
2. Answer one of the most frequent questions I have been asked since I moved here; “What does that tattoo on your arm mean?”
Here is the backdrop. I was 27 years old, I had just finished a Master’s degree in Christian Education from Azusa Pacific University a year prior and I was floundering in my role at church. I decided to step out of ministry believing the lie that I had peaked. My best days were behind me. I quit. I found sustenance in parking cars for a swanky hotel in Laguna Beach.
During that season, God began to do a work in me. I was surviving, but I was really dying inside. I began to ask in infrequent moments “What are you trying to say to me, God?” And then it happened…
God answered.
It wasn’t an audible voice. It was a growing conviction that began to grow a vocabulary around it. “Bobby, you cannot run from what I have you here on this earth to do. Whether or not you feel like it, you do have a job to do. You may kick and scream, run and hide, shake your fists, and explore every possible alternative, but none of that takes away from the truth of who you are, how you were made, and what you were made to do!”
While all of this was going on, I was hanging out with a certain bald friend that we all have come to know and love named Troy. He showed me that he had found this cool Greek word in the New Testament; “eklektos” which means “chosen” from 1 Peter 2:9.
“…but you are a chosen (eklektos) people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation a people belonging to God.”
Troy said, “Dude, we should tattoo that somewhere!” I began to ponder and dwell on that verse. The next part of the verse sealed the conviction for me, the whole verse reads like this “…but you are a chosen (eklektos) people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
This became my life verse. I took Troy up on his offer to tattoo that together. The permanence of a tattoo was significant to me in that no matter what I may be feeling, or how far I may stray, that tattoo will serve as that reminder of who God has called me to be.
The location of my forearm was very strategic in that I wanted to be able to see it. I didn’t want to put it somewhere that I could forget about it. I see it every day, I get asked about it every day, and I am reminded by it every day.
Yes, Troy has it too (obviously not on his forearm). You will have to ask him about his story.
If you are a Christ follower, then you too are part of the eklektos. What are you doing about it?

Wednesday Evenings
Wednesday Night Connect
God has a plan for families - a plan where parents are entrusted with the spiritual growth of their children. Deut. 6:6-7 says: “…these commandments that I give you today…you shall diligently teach to your children, and talk of them when you sit down in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise…”
Wednesday Night Connect was developed to give families a place to learn, worship, and grow together. The first Wednesday of the month is reserved for worship, with a separate service geared toward middle school students, and an off-site serve night for high school students. Other Wednesdays offer classes/programs for children, students and adults. Whether you are married, or single, have children or not, our goal is that you grow in relationship with God and each other.

Group Life
One of the greatest longings of the human heart is to belong: to know others and be known by others; it's the way God intended us to live.
Group Life provides opportunities for
individuals to experience a sense of belonging, to grow together on our spiritual journeys, and to serve others.
While each type of group (Interest, Care, Discovery, Life, and Serving) provides a different opportunity to connect, all are designed around our vision of attracting people to Christ and building community.
No matter where you choose to plug in, there is a place for you in Group Life.
